It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Stephen D. Evan Sr. of Shickshinny on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
He was the youngest of three sons, born August 19, 1953 at Nanticoke Hospital, to the late Joseph and Jennie Evan.
As a child he was a choirmaster and loved to play baseball. Steve graduated from John S. Fine High School in Nanticoke in 1970. He worked at Hasay Chevrolet as a teenager, then later worked for Stabler and Hempt Bros. until he was injured in 1991.
He was the shop steward for United Steel Workers 102. He loved watching NASCAR and was a fan of Jimmy Spencer. He was above all a father who enjoyed spending time with his family.
Steve will be sadly missed by his wife of 38 years, Debbie; daughter, Erica (Eric) Kubasek, Mocanaqua; son, Steve Jr., Hunlock Creek; and Joseph, Pittston; and a grandson, Bryson Kubasek, who was the apple of his eye and the world’s best friend; two brothers, Joe (Loretta), Shickshinny; and Kenny (Debra), Mocanaqua, as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.
A visitation will be held Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 E. Third St., Nescopeck, immediately followed by a funeral service. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mocanaqua.
