San Diego MTS launches PRONTO app and website –

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The mobile app and website for PRONTO – the new tariff system in the San Diego region for San Diego Metro Transit System and the North County Transit District – launched Wednesday.

The PRONTO system was created with the intention of improving the functionality, access and value of the system for cyclists.

Equipped with the PRONTO card or the PRONTO app, cyclists will be able to ride for free throughout September on the MTS trolley and buses, as well as on NCTD’s BREEZE and SPRINTER (this excludes the COASTER system).

Simply press a PRONTO card or scan the QR code on the app on PRONTO validators at stations and inside buses.

On October 1, fees will be charged on the PRONTO system.

Although free COASTER rides are excluded from the PRONTO September offer, COASTER fares can still be purchased through the PRONTO app.

Community outreach events hosted by MTS educated passengers on the new system and offered free PRONTO cards.

Participating Vons and Albertsons retailers and over 50 other outlets also provide free PRONTO cards (but some outlets require at least $ 5 to be loaded onto the card for October rates).

Starting at October, various points of sale throughout San Diego allow customers to load fares onto their PRONTO cards.

Alternatively, the PRONTO website also allows passengers to register cards and purchase fares, along with a variety of other customizable options.
