Start the car, Victoria hockey fans!
Because Royals regular season hockey is BACK this weekend, after an almost two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Boys and Blues will hit the ice for their home opener at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Center this Saturday, Oct. 2 against none other than their familiar nemesis, the Vancouver Giants.
The face-off takes place at 7:05 p.m., and this game marks the first time in 581 days that fans will be at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Center for a regular season game.
âWe are delighted to be back in front of our formidable fans,â said general manager and head coach Dan Price.
âThe preseason gave us precious preparation time. The team is enthusiastic and ready to compete. I can’t wait to see the level of competition and speed in this game and throughout the season.
In addition to good old fashioned hockey, the home opening will feature door prizes, a live DJ and Victoria’s beloved Marty the Marmot.
In addition, the game will be dedicated to the heroes of the pandemic who risked their lives to serve the community of Victoria; Guests such as the Royal Canadian Navy, a plumber, the Victoria Police Department, a tradesperson, a waiter, a grocer, a pharmacist and many more will be in attendance.
Fans will see a few familiar faces on the ice this game, including Gannon Laroque, veteran Graeme Bryks and forward Keanu Derungs.
There will also be a few new players on the bench, such as brothers Wyatt and Anthony Wilson, forward Igor Zborovskiy and former Grande Prairie Storm forward Devin Aubin.
Tickets for the Saturday home opening can be purchased online or by calling the Select Your Tickets box office at (250) 220-2600. You can also stop by the Save-on-Foods Memorial Center box office Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Ticket prices start at $ 25 for students, seniors, and corner seats, $ 30 for sides and ring, and go up to $ 39 for Premium Club seats.
The Save-On-Foods Memorial Center will accommodate a half-capacity crowd, in accordance with provincial public health guidelines. In addition, the arena will require that all employees and guests born in 2009 or before present proof of vaccination prior to entering.
Guests must present proof of full vaccination (two doses) by providing their vaccination passport and ID.
People 12 years of age and over must also wear a mask at all times.
